Testimonials
Denmark Pilongo
Customer Service Specialist

"I am glad I found The American Institute because they helped me in improving my conversation fluency and developing my confidence. At first, I was very intimidated when speaking in English, but I became more and more comfortable. I am currently working as customer service specialist in the BPO/Call Center industry, and I have The American Institute to thank for. I am still a part of the institute through their English Club called Universal Pro-English Club. We've done many activities including trips to Baguio, Lucena, interview strategies, and many more so that we can use English in a natural setting."

Alice Anod
Accountant and Auditor

"The English language Specialists are very different from all the teachers I've had in high school or college. Most teachers I've had in the past were very strict and distanced themselves from the students, but these guys will make you feel like you're one of them. In fact, we call them by their first names, not "sir" or ma'am." They respect us as students with individuality, and at the same time, we respect them for their knowledge and expertise. I used to work for a relatively small local bank, but now I work for a major international firm after developing my speech and communication skills through them."

Elaine Villafuerte
Hotel Operations Specialist

"Before I came to The American Institute, I was already somewhat confident with my English; I simply wanted to polish my speech and communication skills. What I found was that I had so much more to learn. They really taught me how not to just speak English, but how to speak WELL. I was able to improve my critical thinking skills and became a more organized speaker. Now, I work for a five-star hotel, and I am so much more confident when dealing with local executives as well as foreign business professionals. I would highly recommend their services."

18 years ago a baby boy was born. March 28, 1990 his mother gave birth to him at the provincial hospital of Sorsogon. Through his loving parents, especially his father, Vicente M. Perdiz, he grew up with love and peace.

18 years after, that baby boy named Florante L. Perdiz is now at the prime of his teenager life. He struggles and continues to overcome challenges in what and where he is now. Presently, he is the SK Chairman of Barangay Burabod as well as the Committee Chairman on Sports and Education Development. He really plays a vital role no only to his family but to the community at large as well. In school, he must be very active, attentive and be a responsible student because he needs to maintain above average grades being a DOST scholar. His is quite a very impressive life, indeed a very extraordinary one.

He considers these his circle of friends: Edward, Reden, Bonos, Rafael, Credo Marlon, Ryan, Brian. They are his companions almost every time they find time away from school activities, academic or otherwise, to get rid of headaches and just relax and bond with each other. This was true especially way back in high school life. They played billiards to pass time. They enjoy laughing and joking around with each other. As an alternative game they also played also basketball. But now that they are all in college, they each have their own life to manage. Except for Edward and Reden who he gets to see more often, the rest of his circle of friends he gets to meet and ?jam? with during vacation times.

At this point I just want to shift to the first person.  I am Florante L. Perdiz. I wanted to go all over my life story the way it was given in the first three paragraphs but I find it a bit hard to compose the next sentences for the next chapters of my journey.

Who am I really? That is the question that has o be answered here. Honestly, I don?t know what I am going to write or what should my answers would be or look like. For me, the question is very broad and yet can be answered in a specific way.

I am not that well defined person. I don?t know yet why I am here in this world. What are my purposes in life? I am still confused who I really am and what I want. Life seems to be unpredictable. Only God knows what will happen next, tomorrow and in the future. I have so many questions still in life that needs to be answered. I may be given the answers or I may search for them as my life goes on.

Physically, I stand five feet and seven inches, weigh about 67 kilograms, and have brown eyes, black curly hair and tanned skin all over. I am fifth in our family of four brothers and one sister, who I feel most close to. She is presently working in Makati City. My two eldest brothers have their own family, with the eldest still living with us, while the second eldest residing in Quezon City.  Each of them has one child each. I am very fond of my cute and bubbly 3-year old niece, Venice, my eldest brother?s child. My father passed away four years ago when I was in my second year in high school. Although we don?t interact much when he was alive, I do miss my father especially when he cooked us his special beef steak for dinner. I belong to a family that has not much to offer in terms of money but my parents are really trying their best to sustain our needs especially in school. My mother is an administrative staff at Sorsogon National High School for more than 27 years now.  One of my closest friends, Edward, an Engineering student in SSC and my cousin, Jonjon, now 2nd year high school, are living with us in our simple and yet very comfortable house.

The month of October came last year 2007. Rumors came out loud as to who will be aspiring to be the next SK Chairman and will be leading out the youth for 3 ? 5 years in service. Many said I should file for candidacy because they see me as an fitting the position. I just ignored it the first time but a few days later, and with my family convincing me as well, I accepted the challenge. I filed my candidacy running for SK Chairman and had my own council composing of 7 councilors. We planned our campaign and together we visited each house with registered youth voters. We had our own campaign fliers and distributed it to anybody. We did this over and over again until the day of election last October 28, 2007, which was a synchronized election. We were all worried when 3pm came that day. Voting had stopped and canvassing of votes was next. At 6pm, we knew who won. I and six of my councilors won, winning majority over the other party.  We were indeed very happy that time.  Everybody was pleased with the outcome, especially my family, who was also with me campaigning all throughout.

I run and filed my candidacy and I won the SK election but truth to tell, I didn?t know much the nature of being an SK Chairman. I just realized how hard it was when I started to fulfill my duties and responsibilities in the community. Yes, it was very hard the first few months especially. I had to process papers, do public speaking, learn budgeting, prepare the documents needed to purchase materials like the purchase order (PO) and vouchers and then canvass, do PR works, and attend SK Federation meetings. I had to go to the city hall to negotiate with our projects and proposals. Of course, I had to attend sessions in the barangay and in the city level. We had to create youth programs, disseminate it and implement it. I was a mess in the first few months. I really needed to devote much time and cope with the hardship brought upon by being an SK Chairman. But through it all, I am enjoying it now even though it is a bit complicated and burdensome most of the time. And sometimes I can?t help regretting why I even run and got elected in this position. And sometimes, I enjoy it especially when I receive my monthly allowance. For now though, I am just letting things flow. That is me in my community and with my barangay constituents.

As of now, I cannot seem to focus in my college life unlike in my high school years. Back then, I was very attentive and strictly had no absences. I belonged to the higher class, section 3 at Sorsogon National High School. Even though I was a happy go lucky person in high school, I got high grades all throughout. I can say I was a critical thinker. I enjoyed much my high school life, unlike now in college. Lately, I am not that motivated, maybe because I do not like the course I am taking now, BS Education major in Math. I wanted to take up BS Accountancy but my scholarship with DOST does not allow it. And I am expecting too much of myself that at times I cannot give my all. But I am clearing out these things in my mind. I would want to be happy with what I want and what I need meeting halfway. I just want to be fair and give myself a break also because these things that keep taunting and haunting my mind leads me to confusion and at times immobilizing me.
I, Florante L. Perdiz, am confused with my life. At the age of 18, I am not that too critical and keen with the environment and the people around me. Most of the times, I have allowed things and other people to decide for myself. I then realized the pros and cons afterwards and then i suffer the consequences. I need to cope up with these and be strong or else later, slowly my enthusiasm will diminish and I will continue to be confused.

I am just a simple person and I want to live a happy and normal life in the future. As I go deeper with life?s complexities, I find myself being brought to the reality, the reality that needs to be foreseen in the long run. I think this is the reality that gives us purpose. Many of us believe that life is nothing but sailing in the sea and that life?s ups and downs comprise the big and small waves. Life is not easy to play with. For me, I have to really devote time finding myself, the real me and knowing what I really want to do in my life. Until now, I am still in that stage of finding myself in the long winding river of life and defining and knowing myself better to lead me not to confusion. I want to know my limitations. It is really hard to affirm oneself. Until now, I can?t deny these questions on my mind. They come and come and it never stops, disturbing me and at times leading me to be anxious. I can say that I can?t help myself more than anybody. I have much inferiority in and with life, and I am letting things flow, knowing that something good will eventually come out of it.

Ideal self

As individuals, we each have what we call unique characteristics. You have yours, I have mine, too. Each of us is unique and so no one is similar to each other. I have my life, you have yours. You must be possessive of your concerns in life. As for me, I just want the real me when the time comes and live a normal life like the others. I want to be successful and be a professional someday. I want to have my own life with lesser concerns. I want to see myself standing in the crowd saying that all of my struggles were all worth it. That this is me that I have become and is becoming through the hardships of life.

Can you write yours?

 clap3  jawdrop
I  came into this world with  no idea what singing is all about in short being innocent about singing is indeed a factor why I used to be shy and always has this fear of going up on stage or even sitting in front.
when I went to europe I observed their culture, not knowing it would affect me positively coolthumb
I was hanging out then at a japanese-asian restaurant owned by a Filipino couple
then they used to put a karaoke called magic sing with it's  the normal setting with the stage up in the middle spotlight/s and mike stand and of course the microphone.
Later at a filipino community party  they even dare me to sing just for fun And I never imagine what happens next.
I could imagine how hard it is to be a juke box or a radio that  is being used for a day just for  entertainment,
they would let me sing even if I dont know the song  in that flat I will never forget my first audience
later that night we went to  that karaoke bar started singing  like a pro with those facial expression.
that night was the start of everything of what I should start.
and that is start to enroll myself into these john robert powers first  for my confidence and  center for pop laspinas branch in almanza once I go back home to the philippines  and eventually to start driving on my own.

I was still too nervous on that first day in that training school center for pop
even If I know I can and that's what I did tolet them hear my voice
singing my first song the Game of love next song there you'll be from the move pearl harbor, how do I live, sabihin  as i learn different type of song and laerning is a process in life.
I continue my training  and learn in to their Term called "inhale hold sing"
i never realize that singing is not just about good voice quality
But do what they teach and practice at home and the rest will follow.
now I am Finished with their level one   as starborne received my certificate
and experienced my audience 1 for practicum audience 2 for my recital
then on I realized being up on stage is a great opportunity because not all can perform up on stage and see different people
families, friends relatives ,
and even  those who cannot appreciate music  sing2

Should I post it or NOT.  My mind says post it.

Who am I? This is probably one of the most difficult questions that I've ever encountered. Asking myself of who I am,  is somehow making me feel like I am being cast away in an island. boat Now, I hear the rolling thunder, and  see flashes of lights. Nope, it's not my imagination,  it's really raining cats and dogs outside.  trek So let's begin.  Here's my melodrama story. crybaby  Lights! Camera! Action!  (don't worry this is just a short intro heheh) harhar1  chair

Imagine a 4-year old girl who suddenly woke up crying alone in the darkroom realizing that the room was not familiar to her.  crybaby The last scenario that she remembered was her parents fighting and shouting to each other. That, the room that she was into was owned by a totally stranger woman whom her mom called godmother's house.  The girl did not stop crying until she fall asleep, and every time she opens her eyes tears pouring out on her.

The next scene is now a stranger scolding her to shut up   wedgie or else she will put that little girl inside the sack and hang on the tree?the next time she knew it, the little girl was tied up on the tree with lots of big ants around her?still the girl did not stop crying until she ran out of tears to cry.  Then, the little girl was released for being tied up. Though, that's only a portion of some cruelty that this girl experienced during her toddler years.  Nevertheless, she managed to grow up like a normal person. A stronger and probably much better one? yes that little girl was me.
Though,  after a year that my parents have been separated from then, my parents  been together until now and  things went on to?should I say "normal" situation. Though, they're still fighting almost everyday?well, it's normal I guess? At least, they've proven themselves that  they really meant for each other.

Next scene.
A flashback scenario  from my childhood playing hide and seek with my cousins(Moving  fast forward is)  the scene of my pubescent years in school with friends,  and lots of school activities, suitors (ehem). (Fast forwarding ) College days, acting in theatre, friends, first love, first breakup. :?(  Had my first job, just right after my graduation.  Then, ( video: slomo)?I met my  boyfriend, the person, who gave meaning to my life.  Hoping that we will not let our children be like what happened to me.

To sum it all, probably,  I grew up with a little confidence .  I don't usually talk, I am scared of the future.  I don't want to be noticed.  Although, I realized that, nothing will happen to me if this will always incur in my being.  As of now, I'm  in the process of letting go? to let go of the past.. and embracing life.

What about you? Do you have the same story as I am? Or I am different , just like a peculiar, ugly duckling as I was (oops that's another story)
Blogging seems like a good therapy huh?  blowup

Who I am?? I'll assume that this is like describing myself.
Hi I am Tintin. Hmmmm... This is harder than I thought it would be... Now am thinking what to say.
Hmmm... Probably I'll start with what I often heard from my closest friends. They say, people perceived me as snobbish, but reality I am just a very shy..  Shocked
I may not look like that but I really am. lolz.
Hmmm... I wanted to start a conversation, but sometimes there's this fright inside of me that make me keep quiet instead. So with my stay in AIEP, I hope to overcome that.
My closest friends said I am funny and stubborn at times.
I love to sing, I love to read, I love physical activities, jogging, badminton, volleyball... but sometimes I would suddenly prefer to sleep.
All in all, I am very eccentric person lolz. Smiley

Who am I?actually it's reminds me the song of  "Who am I?"by Casting Crowns, its a christian song!and i really loved this song since i already heard it last 2007....i cried every time i  heard that song "Who am I"

Here's the lyrics for those who didn't know this song!and
Here's the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=othmFqaw0Yk

Casting Crowns - Who Am I Lyrics
Who am I?
That the Lord of all the earth,
Would care to know my name,
Would care to feel my hurt.
Who am I?
That the bright and morning star,
Would choose to light the way,
For my ever wondering heart.

Not because of who I am.
But because of what you've done.
Not because of what I've done.
But because of who you are.

Chorus:
I am a flower quickly fading,
Here today and gone tomorrow.
A wave tossed in the ocean,
A vapor in the wind.
Still you hear me when I'm calling,
Lord you catch me when I'm falling,
And you told me who I am.
I am yours.
I am yours.

Who am I?
That the eyes that see my sin
Would look on me with love
And watch me rise again
Who am I?
That the voice that calm the sea,
Would call out through the rain,
And calm the storm in me.

Not because of who I am.
But because what of youve done.
Not because of what I've done.
But because of who you are.

Chorus:
I am a flower quickly fading,
Here today and gone tomorrow.
A wave tossed in the ocean,
A vapor in the wind.
Still you hear me when I'm calling,
Lord you catch me when I'm falling,
And you told me who I am.
I am yours.

Not because of who I am.
But because of what you've done.
Not because of what I've done.
But because of who you are.

Chorus:
I am a flower quickly fading,
Here today and gone tomorrow.
A wave tossed in the ocean,
A vapor in the wind.
Still you hear me when I'm calling,
Lord you catch me when I'm falling,
You told me who I am.
I am yours.
I am yours.

Whom shall I fear?
Whom shall I fear?
'Cuz I am yours.
I am yours.

who am I?

I really don't know who am I? I am confused.  I don't know what is my purpose here on earth.

I am totally useless and meaningless. I always failed in everything i did.

Who am I?

The rain was raining hard; the radio announced earlier that there will be a typhoon. A man in his early 30s outside his house was trying to patch those dripping galvanized iron. "I should have had these holes patched the other day," he muttered, dripped in rain water as he was making his way to another hole.

"Are you done yet?" cried the woman down stare when he cannot wait for her husband to come down.

"There are 3 more holes, i think!" shouted back the man.

The woman returned to cooking their viand. Any minute they will have their supper.

"What's our viand?" asked the man after a moment later when he entered their house totally wet.

"Petchay with sardinas," she said and moved his lips to the man.

"i like that," he said and he motioned his face toward the woman. They stayed in that act for a couple of second or two then they parted. "I've got to take a bath." The man went outside and bathed.

--They have a nice dinner while they were joking each other. Their first child was sitting beside the woman eating as many as he could as though no tomorrow is coming. "Would you like some more rice?" the woman added rice to her son's plate without waiting for his answer. "Eat good," she added.

9:00 PM, the woman started to feel something in her stomach, "I think our baby's coming out!" her surprised words to her husband.

"What, are you sure?" the man is excited yet he does not know what to do next.

"Call the midwife, immediately!" shouted the woman.

The man ran out the door and brought back the midwife with him. The nurse told him to boil water and many things.

1 hour passed and a crying boy was heard............ I was born, iAMHE; i AM HE

WHO am I??? Wow this will be hard

Well, Let me start by intoducing my myself. My name is Gracielle Milcah S. Sanders. My name is from my my mom and pop of course. My father's name was George. He already passed away. I havent got a chance to be with him. I have a lot of siblings from my dad with different mothers. My mom's name is Minda. Well i don't want to talk much about her. I have 3 siblings from her with different fathers as well.

So, i grew up with my grandmother, relatives and siblings. When i was a child most of my friend teases me for my apperance. I looked different to them (My father is half american). There were times that I just cried cause they were so mean to me. They don't like to be friends with me instead getting away from me and called me offending words like "Negra". Angry I guess that the reason why as i grow older i don't have self-confidence. I always think that every person that I meet will be like my old classmates . And that is why some called me snobish. That is not true in fact i would love to have a lot of friends as much as i can. But we can't really please everybody. I hate mean people. And i don't like be like them. i hate judging people by their appearance not unless i already know them. I don't believe in myself. Actually most of my friends call me "NEGA" not NEGRA" hehehe well i like "NEGA" better. 'NEGA' is short for NEGATIVE. They call me that cause I always think in a very negative way. Like for example everytime i'm applying for a job i'm almost like "No i won't be able to pass the interview or the examination". I think of that even before i take it. So, for many years i've been like that. Finally i got a chance to travel abroad and thats the reason why i'm building my self confidence. I went to Hk and I have this concern cousin who was always telling me to stop being so "NEGA". She made me think that i am beautiful
and i appreciate that. She teached me how to take care of my physical apprearance. I gained a lot of confidence. But then when i came back here, there are people who said that i've changed a lot like i got arrogant. And that is the reason why i am back for who i was. But then, one especial person came into my life. He is my boyfriend. in_love  And everytime i'm with him or even just talking to him i believe in myself and i love myself. And he is the one who sent me to AIEP. I've learn a lot here. I guess that's is life. It goes around. This is my journey. I can't be the same person always. You have to get over with the bad things that was happen to you and goes on with life for god have something good in store for us. And god will always be there for us no matter what. Smiley

Hi!  bye I am Tin and lived in Makati. I am the middle child or sometimes they called "the rebel child".  devil When I was in high school, Yes! I did feel that I am a "black sheep"  evil2 Why? maybe because I am the opposite of my eldest brother. He did well in school compared to me. He is a guy but never had a girlfriend during school days where I, being a girl did enter into an early relationship. My parents would always compare me to my brother which made me hate them so much.  mad So I tend to disobey them and would always had a fight with my brother.  box

As time goes by and I grew older, I've realized that I, myself is the only one responsible for my actions.  dunno  It is me who will suffer if I don't live my life very well. It somehow challenges me even more. So I made a promise to myself that I will never ever do something that may ruin my life. I will show and prove to them that I am good and I am the opposite of what they are thinking. I studied very hard and focused so much in school until I graduated in college. I got a job and continuously performing very well in my work.  pcwhack

Based on my story, you would probably see me as a strong person and a positive one.  badair Despite of it all, I still love my family and now I am working very hard to help them financially.  clap2 victory

 blowup

clap3 i so like your post. it took a lot of courage at your end to express in writings those you can't usually verbalize...

Its been a months when I posted this and I never knew that it would last like somebody would post their "who am I" story. The good thing about here is that while reading their long and narrative stories, it seems like your talking to them and your socializing to them as if you are talking them in person or they are in front of the class reciting their introductory lines. I am imagining it also as if you are being interviewed "tell me something about yourself". haha... The really thing that matters to me I like meeting new people and hearing their stories from their past experiences. I kinda love talking and get the ball rolling always.
